Ladies reach the semi final of the Welsh Team championship Plate
This year’s Welsh Team Championship was held at Wenvoe, near Cardiff, from Wednesday June 15th to Sunday June 19th.
Our first match was against Vale of Llangollen. It was a close match but unfortunately we lost 3-2 so we were automatically entered into the Plate competition. The following day our match against Cardiff was delayed because of thunder and lightning so everything was running late. More storms were forecast but these didn’t materialise until we were on the last few holes. We had already won two matches when the klaxon sounded and all players were called off the course. All players had to be back in the position they finished at 7.30am the following morning for a shot gun start.
The following morning we lost two matches before the 18th so it was all square with one match still being played. This last match finished all square on the 18th so on to the 19th and with nerves of steel the hole was won. Now we were in the quarter finals against Dinas Powis to be played that afternoon our first three players all won their matches and so the team was called in. We were in the semi-finals!
The semi-final was played on Sunday morning. Our opposition was to be Southerndown, the winners of the Challenge Competition for the last two years which we knew would be an incredibly difficult match. The whole team played really well but in the end were unable to beat a very strong team .
Well done to Andy Street who won the Presidents Putter
The Senior medal was won by John James with a gross score of 78 net 65
Congratulations to Prathiba Kanse who won the Ladies 3rd Summer Stableford with 32 pts
